The Bedding
Q: Is your OEKO-TEX® certification on natural fibers or a synthetic blend?
A: It is on 100% natural fibers. We know how frustrating it is to see an OEKO-TEX® sticker on bedding, only to check the fine print and realize you are sleeping on a heat-trapping polyester, nylon, or synthetic "bamboo blend"
At Sutra Homes, we do not use synthetic blends, and we never hide plastic in our fine print. Our certification covers our 100% premium, long-staple cotton sateen fabric, our stitching threads and our elastics. You are sleeping on pure, breathable, skin-safe natural cotton - period.
Q: What makes Sutra Homes sheets different from what I can buy in a department store?
A: We built Sutra Homes bedsheets with 100% long-staple cotton, single-ply sateen weave, OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified at a price that does not require a special occasion to justify. We believe in transparency, so we do share all information like: thread counts, size of the bed linens, colours & more. What you feel is the quality of the cotton and the weave - nothing else.
Q: What does 300TC mean?
A: Thread count measures the number of threads woven per square inch of fabric. A single-ply 300TC is our deliberate sweet spot: lightweight, breathable, and genuinely soft without the density that makes high-count sheets feel heavy and trap heat.
Many brands achieve 800TC, 1200TC, or higher by twisting multiple thin, lower-grade fibres together and counting each strand individually. This inflates the number on the label but produces a heavier, less breathable fabric that often pills within months. Read more in our Thread Count guide
Q: What is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100?
A: OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's most rigorous independent textile safety certifications. It means every component of our sheets - fabric, stitching, elastic has been tested against over 350 harmful substances including formaldehyde, pesticides, heavy metals, and phthalates, and has passed all of them. It is a verified, independent guarantee. [Read more →]
Q: What does "long-staple cotton" actually mean?
A: Staple length refers to the length of the individual cotton fibres. Long-staple cotton produces longer, smoother fibres that can be spun into a finer, stronger yarn. The result is a fabric that feels silkier against your skin, pills less over time, and softens further with every wash rather than degrading. Short-staple cotton, by contrast, produces a rougher yarn that tends to feel scratchy and deteriorate faster. It is one of the most important quality indicators in bedding, and one that most brands do not talk about.
Q: Are these sheets suitable for sensitive or acne-prone skin?
A: Yes. Our sheets are 100% natural long-staple cotton (no synthetic blends) and OEKO-TEX® certified free from chemical residues. There are no waxy sizing finishes that need washing out, hence no synthetic fibres that trap heat and moisture against your skin overnight.
Q: Will they get softer over time?
A: Yes, noticeably so. Long-staple cotton naturally softens with laundering because the individual fibres are longer and smoother than short-staple alternatives. There are no chemical coatings to wash away, so the improvement is genuine and lasting rather than temporary.
Sizing & Fit
Q: What sizes are available?
A: Our current range is available in Double, Queen, and King. Fitted sheets and flat sheets are sold separately, each with two matching pillowcases, all presented in a matching fabric storage pouch.
Q: How deep are the fitted sheet pockets?
A: Our fitted sheets have a 40cm pocket depth, which accommodates the majority of standard Australian mattresses, including most popular bed-in-a-box brands. The elastic runs the full perimeter of the sheet - not just the corners - with a 3/4 inch width, so the sheet stays anchored through the night. If you are unsure whether your mattress will be compatible, measure from the top of your mattress to the base of the sleeping surface (not including any base) and compare to 40cm.
Q: What are the flat sheet dimensions?
A: Our flat sheets are generously sized to drape well across all standard Australian bed sizes. Exact dimensions are listed on each product page. If you are layering a flat sheet with a fitted sheet, both are made from the same cotton sateen so the weight and drape will always match. Sizing guide here.
Q: Will the pillowcases fit standard Australian pillows?
A: Yes. Our pillowcases are sized generously to accommodate standard Australian pillow dimensions. The envelope sleeve closure keeps everything looking neat and your pillow securely inside.
Q: What is the matching storage pouch for?
A: Each sheet & pillow covers comes with their own pouches made from the same fabric and colourway as your sheets; it is designed for storing your set in the linen cupboard, not just for shelf presentation. Please note: the storage pouch must be returned with the set if you ever need to make a return.
Colours & Styling
Q: What colours are available at launch?
A: Our July launch introduces six signature tones: Eucalyptus, Riverstone, Twilight Haze,Chambray Dusk, Mist Stripe, and Coastal Stripe Blue. Each is designed to work beautifully on its own and to mix and match with the others.
Q: Can I mix and match pieces from different colourways?
A: Absolutely. And we actively encourage it. Because the entire collection is made from the same 300TC cotton sateen, every piece shares the same drape and sheen, which means mixing colours always looks cohesive rather than mismatched. [See our Mix-and-Match Styling Guide →]
Q: Will the colour look the same as on my screen?
A: We work hard to represent our colours accurately in photography, but screen calibrations vary and natural light will affect how you see the colour in your bedroom. We recommend reading the colour descriptions in our product pages carefully. If you are deciding between two options, our styling guide shows how each tone photographs in a real bedroom setting.

Caring for Your Sheets
Q: How do I wash my sheets?
A: Wash in cool or lukewarm water (maximum 30°C) on a gentle cycle, separately from other items. Line dry in the shade. Avoid fabric softeners, bleach, and tumble drying on high heat. [Read our full Care Guide →]
Q: Will they shrink in the wash?
A: Natural cotton can shrink if washed in hot water or dried on high heat. Washing at 30°C or below and line drying prevents shrinkage. We recommend washing before first use on a cold cycle to allow the fabric to relax naturally.
Q: Can I use fabric softener?
A: We recommend against it. Fabric softener deposits a silicone coating over the cotton fibres that reduces breathability and counterintuitively degrades softness over time. Long-staple cotton does not need fabric softener.
Q: How often should I wash my sheets?
A: Once a week is the standard for most households. If you sleep warm, share your bed with pets, or have sensitive skin, every three to five days is better. [Read our full guide on sheet washing frequency →]
